Job Description
- Installations:
- Installation of chemical processing equipment, i.e. pumps, pipes, mechanical structures and agitators).
- Periodic preventative maintenance of plant equipment, compressor maintenance and breakdown maintenance.
- Fabrication of steel and piping. Perform MIG, TIG and other types of welding methods depending on the project.
- Pipe fitting and troubleshooting. Must also be able to come up with concepts for improvement where required.
- Accurately complete all job cards and record keeping
- Troubleshooting of hydraulic and pneumatic power packs, agitators, pumps, conveyors and gearboxes.
- Occasional planning and installation for new projects.
- Maintenance:
- Preventative maintenance planning and execution.
- Carry out breakdown maintenance of mechanical equipment.
- Accurate record keeping of all maintenance work done.
- Conduct general housekeeping in the workshop.
- Required to be on standby as per roster.
- Will be required to work overtime as and when required.
- Required to adhere to all company and work site safety rules and regulations.
Qualifications & Experience
- Matric/Grade 12.
- Completed Fitting Apprenticeship.
- Welding certificate advantageous.
- Minimum 3-5 years’ experience as a Fitter.
- Prior work experience in a production, workshop, plant, maintenance, mechanical as well as chemical environment with a good understanding in operating equipment.
- Previous experience in mentoring and leading apprentices.
- Possess confidence in ability to weld effectively and efficiently, namely stick welding, Argon welding and TIG welding.
- Thorough attention to detail and ability to use initiative.
- Knowledge of engineering science and technology. Good mechanical fitting skills.
- Possess good communication (verbal and written), analytical, team work, mechanical, time management, problem solving, planning and design skills and knowledge.
- Physical strength and stamina
- Profound knowledge of and ability to use hand held tools and tools of the trade.
- Awareness of MerSETA apprenticeship requirements.
- Possess basic knowledge of the OHS Act.
- Ability to work under pressure and able to follow instructions.
- Must possess specific skill-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job including adherence to safety.
- Ability to report to a Team Leader.
- Ability to work independently as well as within a team
- Computer literate in MS Office (Word/Excel) and Outlook.
- Knowledge of SHEQ Management Systems standard/requirements advantageous
- Must be safety orientated.
- Must be an expert in the regulation codes to self-inspect their work and ensure that everything is up to standard.
- Must be in possession of a valid driver’s license, have own reliable transport and be medically fit to drive. Will be required to undergo a driver’s pre-employment medical.
