Sea Harvest: Fleet Marine Electrician

PURPOSE 
To be responsible for electrical repair work and maintenance support to the Trawling Division by ensuring that all vessels’ electrical equipment function at maximum efficiency thereby mitigating future failures and malfunctions.


OUTPUT & MEASUREMENTS

Duties include but will not be limited to:

  • Conduct routine inspections, repairs, and maintenance on electrical equipment and report on the conditions of the equipment to prevent future breakdowns.
  • Identify electrical work that needs to be tended to by contractors and ensure that the repair work performed by contractors is completed timeously and accurately.
  • Do fault finding and problem solving on megatronic equipment and winch controls.
  • Inspect and identify electrical safety requirements for SAMSA and Classification regulatory bodies and ensure that certification is obtained. 
  • Interpret deviations recorded and rectify deviations.
  • Identify critical electrical components required to be made stock items and report variances to the Fleet Electronics Manager.
  • Actively participate in improvement programs and initiatives.
  • Promote and support a holistic safe working environment within the department. 

REQUIREMENTS 
The ideal candidate must possess the following attributes:

  • Grade 12 and Trade Certificate (certificate of competence) as electrician.
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of experience as Marine Electrician.
  • Exposure to a large fleet of vessels’ marine electrical repairs would be advantageous.
  • Ability to maintain good interpersonal skills and to work in a team.
  • Must have an analytical mindset and be able to perform root cause analysis.
  • Ability to function independently in decision making and problem solving.
  • Willingness to work long hours.
  • Ability to work in a high-pressure environment.
