Job Overview
The Diesel Mechanic is expected to provide quality repair and maintenance activities on earthmoving machines to meet and exceed manufacturer specifications against strict compliance to the environmental, health and safety requirements. This position is project based and reports to the Maintenance Supervisor.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Conducting daily inspections on machines and resolving all mechanical and electrical deviations picked
- Conducting hazard identification and risk assessment and ensuring that mitigations are in place to maintain a safe working environment and providing mitigation to risks or reporting to supervision where high accident potentials exist
- Responding to breakdowns and resolving them at the earliest possible to minimize downtime
- Assisting operators with care, maintenance and operational requirements on machines and ensuring that machinery testing is done after each service, repair and whenever required
- Identifying and reporting any signs indicating potential failure to supervision and planning interventions work to ensure these are arrested before failure
- Identifying, reporting and correcting any safety deviations and ensuring that the machines are never operated in an unsafe manner.
- Providing care on machines to ensure that no components are inadvertently damaged or are maintained in a secure manner to avoid damage and pilferage
- Scheduling maintenance times, parts, consumables and any additional labour required
Qualifications & experience required
Requirements:
- Matric
- Mechanical /Electrical Engineering National Diploma or Artisan Trade (Red Seal)
- Driver’s license Code 10
- Minimum 5 years of experience working in the Mines on maintenance of heavy mechanical equipment
