As a Shift Instrument Mechanician , you will be responsible for:
- Do proper fault finding, investigate and assess breakdown, think beyond the fix.
- During work scoping exercise, do proper internal and external resource planning, also identify spares and tools requirements
- Execute assigned breakdown and opportunity maintenance tasks and comply to breakdown repair/ opportunity maintenance schedule
- On reporting and communication, report plant defects and / or abnormalities observed whilst repairing equipment.
- Perform all maintenance tasks, as per generally accepted engineering practices. Comply with rotable procedure.
- Reporting downtime details to Foreman, enter downtime and feedback on notification/s.
- Perform basic welding and cutting, fitting and basic rigging.
- Improve Master data accuracy.
- Execute assigned scheduled and / or planned maintenance tasks,
- Compliance to daily plan, section checks and report plant defects and/ or abnormalities.
- Sharing knowledge within and across teams and coaching peers with regards to plant specific aspects.
- Know where specialised tools and spares are kept and how to use.
- Review BP’s used and provide update requirements.
- Assist production personnel with isolation process where required.
- Take out work permit according to Sappi policy.
- Perform 60 second risk assessment as per Sappi policy.
- Correct selection and use of tools for the job.
- Perform tasks as per generally accepted engineering practices.
- Inspect spares for specific job, and do the job right the first time.
- Housekeeping, working area should be cleaned after completion of work.
- Create a safe work environment by identifying and managing risks associated with a task to be performed, conduct 60 second risk assessments.
- Support the Mill BBS program.
- Report unsafe conditions and acts.
- Move and transport equipment in workplace.
- Comply with work order business process by raising notifications, draw own unplanned spares, sign off works orders / best practices and create works orders.
- Update the notification feedback.
What are we looking for?
- Matric with Maths and Physical Science or N3 Engineering Studies.
- Recognised Trade Test Certificate as an Instrument Mechanician.
- 2 Years post-apprenticeship experience with a focus on instrumentation fault finding in an industrial environment would be advantageous.
- SAP knowledge and proficiency with SAP PM will be advantageous.
- Valid Driver’s license.
