Anova: Technical Assistant

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide clinical support and technical advice on TB program to DoH and internal staff.
  • Plan, facilitate and monitor the implementation of TB support activities across the sub-district.
  • Identify facilities that are not reaching the MER TB indicator targets and initiate QIPs across the sub-district.
  • Provide technical support and monitor IPC (Infection Prevention and Control) program at facility level and develop QI strategies for gaps identified.
  • Provide technical support to the sub-district on the implementation of TPT guidelines.
  • Identify training needs and support multidisciplinary staff training on TB/HIV guidelines, policies, and protocols.
  • Support and Facilitate CLI (Clinical Lab Interface) Activities
  • Submit monthly /quarterly CLI reports.
  • Identify training needs on CLI related issues to prevent and decrease specimen rejection rate.
  • Assist the clinical advisory team in providing on-site support.
  • Assist with Quarterly PMTCT Folder Audits
  • Coordinate the dissemination of relevant provincial guidelines, protocols, algorithms, and IEC materials.
  • Identify additional training needs at facilities and organize the relevant trainings.
  • Support innovative projects that can be implemented to improve performance of the TB/HIV/PMTCT programme.
  • Identify facilities that would be used as “best practice models” for the purpose of learning.
  • Work with M&E teams to ensure performance monitoring systems are operating effectively.
  • Conduct facility site visits to monitor and identify gaps
  • Work closely with SD manager and the district TA team to recommend corrective actions for these gaps.
  • Collaborate with other partners to maximise partnership strengths for successful implementation of programme goals.
  • Compile and submit the relevant technical assistance workload tool to Area Managers timeously.
  • Compile and submit monthly & quarterly regular TB/HIV/PMTCT/QI reports for Anova, Funders and DOH as required.
  • Submit TPT Report by 3rd of each month to ME Manager and copy AM
  • Ensure that supported sites’ programme indicators are reported timeously to Anova, the DoH and donors.


Minimum Qualifications, Experience and Skills Required

  • MBChB or Nursing degree or diploma
  • Valid registration with HPCSA and SANC
  • At least 5 years’ post community service clinical experience for Nurses and two years post community service experience for medical doctors
  • At least 3 years’ experience managing PMTCT and HIV/TB patients.
  • NIMART authorised/ NIMART trained and mentored
  • Knowledge of latest HIV/TB/PMTCT guidelines.
  • Flexible and resilient to change
  • Ability to communicate technical and policy issues clearly and effectively to multidisciplinary team
  • Valid driver’s license.

This role is based in the Southern Western subdistrict. The district office is based in Century City.
