Duties & Responsibilities
- Conduct preventative and corrective maintenance activities
- Conduct repairs and replacement of components
- Conduct switching activities on low voltage and medium voltage electrical networks
- Follow method statements and direction from the Plant Supervisor and Utility Manager
- Attend to defects, conduct fault finding
- Oversee contractors (e.g. vegetation and module washing) when required
- Write/contribute to investigation reports, fill out incident documentation
- Ensure that HSE requirements are adhered to – maintain a clean and safe working environment
- Log faults and utilize the monitoring software
- Read wiring diagrams and manufacturer’s operation manuals to diagnose faults
- Repair or replace wiring, equipment, and fixtures, using hand tools and power tools
- Perform physically demanding tasks, such as moving and lifting heavy objects
- Test electrical systems, wiring, equipment, and fixtures, using testing devices to ensure continued compliance
- Inspect electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for repair or claim under warranty
- Maintain a clean and safe working environment and comply with the OHS Act.
- Maintain records and files, preparing reports and advice on ordering supplies and equipment
- Complete work orders/tickets in the ERP system as required
- Ensure that the quality of work performed is aligned with reasonable expectations of a competent and qualified Electrician
- Conduct any other duties as may be assigned by the site supervisor
- Willing to work standby/Overtime as per the company policy requirements
Desired Experience & Qualification
- Must be a qualified Electrician/Artisan/Millwright and therefore have passed the required trade test
- Minimum N3 academic qualification (Electrical or similar)
- Must have solar installation or solar operations experience (1+ years), preferably with large scale installation and tracking systems
- Knowledge of SCADA / PLC and communication systems will be advantageous
- Preferably must have ORHVS training to be able to conduct live and remote switching duties
- Some exposure/experience with mechanical systems, such as slow rotating torque transfer systems, will be beneficial
- Understand/Interpret technical drawings and SLD’s
- Understand and adhere to HSE requirements
- Be in possession of a valid Code B driver’s license
- Able to work in a team as well as independently and have strong interpersonal skills
- Be self-driven and have a strong ability to work independently, but able to work according to approved systems Framework and standards
- Must be able and willing to perform work that can be physically demanding
- Must be in possession or be able to obtain medical fitness certificate in terms of Annexure 3 of OHS Act Construction Regulations
- Must be proficient in English (verbal and written communication) and preferably another language
- Must be fully computer literate (MS Office Suite and Google App Suite) and be able to be trained in the other systems
