AVI Limited is seeking an enthusiastic LIGHT CURRENT INSTRUMENTATION ENGINEERING GRADUATE to join our NBL WESTMEAD BISCUITS FACTORY, based in Westmead, KwaZulu Natal. At this factory we create a variety of our beloved creamed and enrobed biscuits, including Romany Tarte, Zoo, Choc-Kits, Gossips, Topper, Jolly Jammers, Red Label, Romany Creams, and Strawberry Whirls. Our lineup also features the iconic and classic Choice Assorted and the latest innovation to our ‘Swirl of Magical’ biscuit family: Choc-oBreak, Tennis Doubles, and ZooZoos.

As a LIGHT CURRENT INSTRUMENTATION ENGINEERING GRADUATE, you will play a crucial role in measuring and controlling equipment in our factory. You will be the eyes and ears of the production process, ensuring everything runs smoothly and efficiently. Your work will be vital in alerting the team when issues arise, making you an integral part of our success. What you will be doing:

  • Mastering Core Concepts: Apply and expand your knowledge of instrumentation, processes, networking, SCADA, PLCs, automation, and food processing.
  • Hands-On Experience: Dive into various projects to gain in-depth knowledge of our plant, including processing and packing equipment.
  • Project Involvement: Engage in all stages of projects, from research and development to design, feasibility studies, and preparing scoping documents for capital funding.
  • Collaborative Work: Work closely with Engineering teams and select suppliers (OEMs) during line installations, new commissioning, and handovers.
  • Efficiency Optimisation: Identify efficiency issues and propose practical solutions to enhance our processes.
  • Technical Reporting: Prepare project reports and apply your technical writing skills effectively.
  • Cross-functional interaction: Collaborate with different teams and participate in commercial discussions, sharing your insights and research.

What you will need to be considered:

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Technology with a major in Light Current Electronic or Electrical Engineering
  • A minimum average of 60% in the final year of studies

  • Relevant Experience: Any vacation experience or part-time work is valued.
  • Effective Communicator: Ability to relate to and communicate confidently across various organisational levels.
  • Flexible Availability: Willingness to travel between our factories and work different shifts on an ad hoc basis
  • Adaptability: Ability to adapt quickly and ask questions in a fast-paced factory environment, embrace different approaches and thrive in a dynamic environment.
  • Tech-Savvy: Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Factory Enthusiast: Willingness to work in a manufacturing and factory environment with minimal office work
