Nampak Engineering Apprentice Intake 2026

For young people pursuing artisan careers, getting into a structured apprenticeship can be one of the most important steps between completing technical studies and becoming workplace-ready. The strongest programmes go beyond classroom theory by placing apprentices inside active engineering environments where maintenance, installations, fault-finding and production reliability become part of their everyday training.

Nampak is inviting applications for its Engineering Apprentice Intake 2026, with six apprenticeship opportunities available at Metals Vanderbijlpark. The intake includes opportunities for aspiring Mechanical Fitters, Electricians, and Fitters & Turners, with successful candidates receiving intensive workplace and theoretical training within the Engineering Department.

Six Engineering Apprenticeships Available

Nampak is recruiting six apprentices across three technical trades:

  • 2x Mechanical Fitter Apprentices
  • 2x Electrical Apprentices
  • 2x Fitter & Turner Apprentices

This makes the intake particularly relevant to candidates who have already started building a technical foundation through NTC/N-level engineering studies and now want practical workplace exposure.

About the Nampak Engineering Apprentice Intake 2026

Successful candidates will join the Engineering Department at Nampak Metals Vanderbijlpark.

The apprenticeship combines theoretical trade training with intensive on-the-job development.

Apprentices will be expected to complete all theoretical modules required for their respective trades while developing practical competence within the plant.

What Will Nampak Apprentices Do?

Successful candidates will participate in structured training while supporting engineering and production activities.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Completing the required theoretical modules for the selected trade
  • Participating in intensive on-the-job training
  • Completing additional relevant technical training
  • Supporting production operations
  • Developing practical maintenance skills
  • Learning installation procedures
  • Developing troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Following plant rules and regulations
  • Complying with workplace safety requirements
  • Working effectively as part of an engineering team

The programme is therefore aimed at developing both technical knowledge and practical workplace competence.

Practical Maintenance and Installation Experience

A major part of the apprenticeship will involve learning how engineering maintenance supports production reliability.

Apprentices will develop the ability to practically participate in:

  • Equipment maintenance
  • Technical installations
  • Engineering problem-solving
  • Troubleshooting
  • Production support

This type of workplace exposure is particularly valuable for candidates who have completed technical studies but still need practical experience within an operating industrial environment.

Minimum Matric Requirements

Applicants must have Matric with Mathematics, Physical Science and English as a second language.

A minimum pass mark of 50% is required.

Candidates will need to provide their Matric certificate showing their subjects and marks when applying.

NTC3 Engineering Qualification Required

Applicants must also have at least:

NTC3 Engineering with the relevant Trade Theory subject.

Candidates with qualifications higher than NTC3 may also apply.

Importantly, Nampak requires applicants to submit both their:

  • NTC3 certificate
  • NTC3 results/transcript

The documents must clearly show the subjects completed and marks achieved.

Skills Nampak Is Looking For

Beyond academic qualifications, candidates should demonstrate:

  • Basic understanding of engineering
  • Team orientation
  • Good organisational skills
  • Systematic approach to work
  • Basic computer literacy
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Good communication skills
  • Positive attitude
  • Ability to use initiative
  • Willingness to learn

Successful candidates must also be prepared to work overtime and shifts when required.

Which Trade Should You Consider?

Candidates should consider the apprenticeship stream that most closely aligns with their existing technical studies and career ambitions.

Mechanical Fitter

This route may suit candidates interested in maintaining, assembling, repairing and troubleshooting mechanical plant equipment.

Electrical

The Electrical apprenticeship is more relevant to candidates who want to develop practical skills around industrial electrical equipment, installations and maintenance.

Fitter & Turner

Candidates interested in mechanical fitting combined with machining and precision component work may be better suited to the Fitter & Turner pathway.

Your existing Trade Theory subject should align with the apprenticeship you’re applying for.

Three Documents Are Critical

Nampak has provided very specific application instructions.

Applicants must submit:

  1. A CV of no more than two pages
  2. Matric certificate clearly showing subjects and marks
  3. NTC3 certificate and transcript clearly showing subjects and marks

Nampak warns that applications received without the required information will not be considered.

That makes document preparation just as important as meeting the qualification requirements.

Thabang Maimela’s Tip

Don’t send your normal four- or five-page CV for this one. Nampak specifically limits the CV to two pages, so use that space carefully. Put your Matric subjects, NTC3 qualification, Trade Theory and technical skills near the top rather than filling the CV with generic personal statements. Before emailing anything, also open your attachments individually and make sure the subjects and marks are clearly readable. Nampak explicitly warns that applications without the requested information won’t be considered.

How to Apply for the Nampak Engineering Apprenticeships

Applicants must email the required documents to:

[email protected]

Use the following email subject:

Application Apprentice Intake 2026

Your application must include:

  • CV – maximum 2 pages
  • Matric certificate showing subjects and marks
  • NTC3 certificate
  • NTC3 transcript showing subjects and marks

Incomplete applications will not be considered.

Candidates should avoid waiting until the final day to submit their documents, particularly if they still need to obtain copies of their NTC3 results or transcript.

A Strong Opportunity for Future Artisans

What makes the Nampak Engineering Apprentice Intake 2026 particularly worth watching is that six candidates will be selected across three established artisan trades.

For applicants with Matric Mathematics, Physical Science, the required marks and at least NTC3 Engineering with relevant Trade Theory, the programme provides an opportunity to move beyond technical classroom learning and begin developing practical engineering skills inside a working industrial environment.

With opportunities in Mechanical Fitting, Electrical, and Fitting & Turning, eligible candidates have until 28 August 2026 to submit a complete application.

Closing Date: 03/09/2026
