Purpose of this role:
To install maintain, repair electrical systems and associated equipment, in order to maximise production with minimum downtime in a safe and efficient manner.
This position will form part of the Engineering department and will report to the Instrumentation and Electrical Manager.
Key Responsibilities:
- Fault Finding and Troubleshooting:
- Troubleshoot PLC circuits, AC/DC drives, and high voltage switchgear.
- Diagnose issues in transformers and electrical systems with testing devices.
- Installation and Maintenance:
- Assemble, install, test, and maintain electrical systems and fixtures.
- Plan and install wiring and equipment per specifications and codes.
- Connect ground leads and power cables.
- Work from ladders and scaffolds for installation and repair.
- Place conduit and pull wires to complete circuits.
- Documentation and Reporting:
- Inspect machinery and report defects.
- Complete logbooks for incoming electricians.
- Fill out and sign job cards.
- Complete timesheets for shifts.
- Handle business tasks: record-keeping, reports, and ordering supplies.
- Safety and Compliance:
- Inspect electrical systems to spot hazards and defects.
- Test systems and circuits for safety and functionality.
- Advise management on equipment safety and operation.
- Support and Training:
- Direct and train Electrical Assistants in installation and maintenance tasks.
- Use tools and equipment, including measuring devices and power tools.
- Construct parts with hand tools based on specifications.
- Perform physically demanding tasks like digging and lifting.
- Assist in emergencies with floodlights, generators, and other needs.
- Grade 12/Matric with Math’s and science?
- A completed a recognized Electrical Apprenticeship is essential.?
- Excellent hand-eye coordination?
- 3 to 5 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment is preferable.?
- Experience in Textile environment/ manufacturing advantageous?
- Strong understanding of electrical systems?
- Good knowledge of various test equipment?
- Must be flexible to work shutdown, available to be on standby and work on weekends.?
