Responsibilities

Fabricate and Assemble metal structures and equipment with welders, cutters, shapers and measuring tools to produce metal products according to customer and PepsiCo engineering specifications.

Read and interpret project plans, blueprints and other written instructions and diagrams to perform task within budget requirements.

Perform MIG, TIG and other types of weld based on project and maintenance work.

Fabrication and Field installation of welds, including duct work, chutes, brackets, support structures, light fixtures, vents, fans, metal sheeting and other parts throughout the Factory.

Select proper fillers for jobs based on previous experience or project instructions.

De-bur (neaten and smooth rough edges) and grind metal as necessary to achieve proper surface texture for assigned projects and maintenance work.

Set up, operate and maintain welding equipment.

Determining the appropriate welding equipment or method based on requirements.
-
Setting up components for welding according to specifications.
-
Repair/Maintain machinery and other components by welding pieces and filling gaps to ensure consistent product quality and minimise equipment breakdowns.

Test and inspect welded surfaces and structure to discover flaws.
-
Maximise plant availability through effective completion of breakdown, preventative and routine maintenance schedules as required.

Maintain all service equipment and utilities to the highest technical standard.

Maintain AIB standards by responding to AIB job requests and taking immediate action within the areas of responsibility.

Maintain IPS standards on the respective lines, by executing action plans.

Ensure that all equipment complies with the PepsiCo Engineering Standards and Safety. (OHSAct) and SANS 10142.
Qualifications

Qualified artisan with minimum N3 qualification.

Successful completion of a relevant apprenticeship program (trade test) is required.

Knowledge of the OHSAct (safety legislation) an advantage.

Ability to read and interpret technical documents and drawings.

Knowledge of relative safety standards and willingness to use protective clothing (face-shield, gloves etc.).

Professional Certification (e.g. an AWS welding certificate) will be a plus.

Proven experience as welder.

Experience in using electrical or manual tools (saws, squares, callipers etc.).

Experience using a variety of welding equipment and procedures (TIG, MMA etc.).

Minimum 3 years fabrication and assembling metal structures in a Factory environment.
