The role:
The purpose of the role is to be responsible for timely fabrication, installation, repair and maintenance of equipment to ensure that mining activities are executed in a safe manner.
The duties will include but are not limited to:
- Maintenance and repair of equipment and machines to ensure the availability & reliability thereof
- Engineering Technical compliance
- Keeping record of inspections, maintenance and repairs conducted to equipment on checklists and job cards
- Being able to identify faults and repair defects without supervision
- Maintaining good housekeeping in the area of responsibility
- Ensuring that all planning and productivity requirements are achieved
- Performing inspections and work in accordance with the Mine Standards and Procedures and the Mine Health and Safety Act and regulations
- Undertaking appropriate Risk Assessments (RA)
- Working shifts, overtime, and standby duties
Requirements:
- Recognised Boilermaker Trade Test Certificate
Internal Candidates
- Grade 12 with Math (Not Literacy) & Science, minimum E symbol with relevant two N2 Trade related subjects as per MQA guideline or N2 with four relevant trade related subjects as per MQA guideline
External Candidates
- Grade 12 with Math (Not Literacy) & Science, minimum E symbol with four N2 relevant trade related subjects as per MQA guideline
- Technical and maintenance experience in opencast mining and coal process plant environment
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings
- Knowledge and understanding of steel fabrication
- Welding methods and techniques, metal identification
- Good understanding of equipment & tools and uses thereof
- Good knowledge of the trade and legislations governing the Mining industry, Mine Health & Safety Act, regulations and standards
