Volvo Group: Diesel Technician

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform routine maintenance on drilling rigs to ensure uninterrupted operations.
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose and repair equipment problems.
  • Perform overhauls, rebuilds, and testing of equipment components.
  • Ensure the equipment meets all safety requirements.
  • Develop and maintain an accurate inventory of all tools, equipment, and parts.
  • Develop repair reports and maintain maintenance records.
  • Keep up to date with the latest equipment, technology and maintenance procedures.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Grade 12
  • Vocational or technical training in diesel mechanics, electronics, or related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ hands-on experience in drilling rig maintenance, with a focus on diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Good organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to work in confined spaces, at heights, and in all weather conditions.
  • Must be able to lift heavy equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, bend, and kneel for extended periods.

Working Conditions:

  • This position requires working longer hours, including weekends and holidays.
  • Working in remote locations, in various weather conditions.
  • Exposure to grease, oil, and other hazardous chemicals.
