Main Purpose of the Role
We are looking for a skilled and reliable Technical Maintenance Assistant to join our facility’s engineering and support services team. The primary purpose of this role is to ensure that all building infrastructure, plant equipment, and related services are maintained to their original working condition in the most safe, efficient, and cost-effectivemanner. This position plays a vital part in preserving the integrity of healthcare infrastructure to support uninterrupted patient care.
Key Responsibility Areas

Carry out technical repairs, installations, and preventive maintenance across the locality, ensuring continuous equipment performance and facility uptime.

Handle administrative tasks related to the technical function, including maintenance records, compliance documents, and job reporting.

Identify technical risks or hazards within the building or facility and implement mitigation measures to reduce downtime or damage.

Supervise and coordinate on-site contractors, ensuring work quality aligns with organisational standards and health and safety protocols.

Build and maintain effective relationships with clients, internal stakeholders, and external service providers to ensure smooth technical operations.
Education Requirements For The Handyman Job Opportunities at Mediclinic

Essential: Grade 10 or equivalent technical vocational qualification

Desired: Grade 12 or completion of the Mediclinic Technical Assistant Development Programme
Certification Requirements

Essential: Valid driver’s license

Desired: Certification in the Mediclinic Technical Assistant Development Programme or similar technical training
Experience Requirements

Minimum: 5 years’ hands-on experience in building maintenance and equipment repairs, OR certification through the Mediclinic Technical Assistant Development Programme

Preferred: Previous experience in a healthcare or clinical facility environment is advantageous
Required Knowledge and Skills

Strong working knowledge of general equipment repairs, fault finding, and preventative maintenance

Ability to read and interpret layout diagrams, technical plans, and equipment manuals

Familiarity with Occupational Health and Safety (OHS), ISO standards, and facility compliance protocols

Practical experience managing or assisting with planned maintenance schedules

Basic computer literacy, especially in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
