Job Description
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Diesel Mechanic Apprentice to join our team in Kathu, South Africa. The successful candidate will assist experienced diesel mechanics in maintaining and repairing diesel engines, heavy machinery, and vehicles, while undergoing structured on-the-job training to develop technical expertise.
Duties and Responsibilities For Manitou Centres 2025 Apprenticeships

Assist qualified diesel mechanics with maintenance and repairs of diesel engines, heavy machinery, and vehicles.

Perform routine maintenance tasks, including oil changes, lubrication, and filter replacements.

Learn to operate diagnostic tools and equipment to identify and troubleshoot mechanical issues.

Support the repair or replacement of defective parts such as brakes, transmissions, engines, and fuel systems.

Maintain accurate records of work performed, parts used, and time spent on each task.

Adhere strictly to all health, safety, and environmental regulations.

Gain proficiency in the safe use and care of workshop tools and diagnostic equipment.

Attend training sessions and educational programs to enhance technical knowledge and skills.

Interact with customers or vehicle operators when necessary to discuss repairs or gather problem details.

Comply with all company policies, including health and safety procedures.

Must be medically fit and able to work at heights safely when required.

Demonstrate progress through practical application of learned skills, working independently or as part of a team.

Be available for shift work or overtime when necessary.
Minimum Requirements

Matric with Mathematics and Physical Science (Maths Literacy not accepted)

N2 Certificate or higher in Electrical or Mechanical fields (advantageous)

Recent school leavers are encouraged to apply

Must not have previously participated in any apprenticeship or learnership program

Driver’s license is an advantage

Must be medically fit to perform assigned duties
