We are currently seeking a Mechanical Maintenance Technician to join our team and assist in maintaining and repairing critical machinery within our production facility. Responsibilities of the Mechanical Maintenance Technician
As a Mechanical Maintenance Technician, you will play a key role in the repairs and maintenance of production machinery, ensuring optimal performance and preventing downtime. Key responsibilities include:
Repairs and Maintenance:

Collaborate with the Fitter and Engineering Manager to perform critical repairs and maintenance tasks in the production area.

Assist with ongoing preventative maintenance activities, as outlined in the Maintenance Schedule, to ensure continuous and efficient operation of equipment.

Conduct regular inspections throughout the plant, including silos, batching plant, milling and mixing equipment, extruder, dryer, coating machinery, coolers, packaging lines, and stitching and sealing stations.

Inspect key components such as chains, bearings, conveyors, motors, gearboxes, V-Belts, augers, shafts, hydraulic arms, sprockets, control valves, and pistons.

Examine buckets (e.g., Nerak buckets) and holding bins for proper function and any necessary repairs.

Identify and promptly report any leaks (oil, gas, water, fat) to the Mechanical Manager.

Assist in performing repairs as requested under the guidance of the Mechanical Manager to ensure production systems run efficiently.
Workshop Fabrication and Installations:

Support workshop fabrication tasks, such as building check weighers, conveyor frames, packing machines, and bins.

Assist with the installation of key components like water pipes and other machinery to maintain plant operations.

Ensure compliance with safety protocols and consistently wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) during workshop activities and installations.

Maintain a clean and organized work area, ensuring tools and equipment are stored properly to avoid accidents and ensure operational efficiency.

Retrieve necessary consumables from the storeroom to support maintenance and repair tasks.

Safely store tools and equipment after performing repairs and installations, preventing any safety hazards or risks.
Requirements for the Mechanical Maintenance Technician Role
To be successful in this position, you will need to meet the following qualifications and experience requirements:

National Senior Certificate (NQF 4) or equivalent.

A minimum of 2 years’ proven work experience in an engineering environment.

Strong mechanical knowledge and a good understanding of maintenance procedures.

High attention to detail and a strong commitment to safety.

Ability to work effectively in a team environment and collaborate with others to meet objectives.

Excellent communication skills for effective interaction with the team and other departments.
