Purpose:
This role is designed to assist Artisans (Boilermaker, Fitter, Millwright, Diesel Mechanic) with daily maintenanceactivities to ensure smooth operations in the mining and construction industry. As an Engineering/Artisan Assistant, you will support artisans with a wide range of tasks, ensuring efficient equipment maintenance and repair.
Main Responsibilities:
Maintenance:

Assist the Artisan in executing predictive and preventive maintenance activities.

Help the Artisan document maintenance work in the designated database.

Support in repairing and assembling various types of machines and equipment.

Disassemble machinery and components using the appropriate tools.
-
Respond promptly to breakdowns and perform necessary tasks.

Clean components and parts as per Artisan’s instructions.

Complete tasks as per the issued job cards and maintain quality standards.

Ensure all tools and equipment are properly maintained and accounted for.
Safety:

Adhere to SHEQ (Safety, Health, Environment, and Quality) standards, policies, and procedures.

Perform general housekeeping duties, including cleaning workshop machinery and equipment.

Ensure the safekeeping of tools and proper storage.
Inspection and Reporting:

Conduct daily inspections of tools and equipment, providing feedback as needed.

Report faults, damages, and issues to the Artisan.

Perform ad hoc tasks as required by the Artisan or supervisor.
Qualifications for the Fraser Alexander Artisan Assistant Job Opportunities

Grade 12 with Pure Mathematics (50%) and Physical Science (50%) OR
-
Completed N3 Engineering Studies (relevant to the field).
Experience:
-
2–4 years’ experience as an Engineering/Artisan Assistant in the mining or construction industry.

Experience with basic hand tools and maintenance tasks.

Knowledge of hydraulics, lubrication systems, mechanical seals, assembly/disassembly, pump/motor alignment, and maintenance of diesel engines.

Willingness to work overtime or weekends as required by the operation.
