Are you passionate about mechanics and looking to start a hands-on technical career? Join the AFGRI Apprenticeship Programme 2025 – a structured 3-year in-service training programme leading to a qualification as a Tractor Mechanic or Earthmoving Equipment Mechanic.
Programme Overview
This apprenticeship provides practical and theoretical training to develop highly skilled technicians for the agricultural and earthmoving industries.

Duration: 3 years (including a 6-month probationary period)

Qualification: Tractor Mechanic or Earthmoving Mechanic

Training Delivery: Combination of workplace learning, product training, practical modules, and distance learning
During the initial 6-month probation period, both the company and the apprentice can assess suitability without long-term obligations. Once successfully completed, the apprentice enters into a formal training contract with AFGRI.
Training Includes:

Practical training at an accredited Technical Training Institute (as required)

Theoretical learning via distance education (including N-Subjects, if applicable)

Saturday classes where necessary

Product training from John Deere, other industry suppliers, and AFGRI specialists
Note: Training is fully sponsored by AFGRI, provided the apprentice successfully completes each module. Failed subjects must be retaken at the apprentice’s own cost and time.
Work-Back Commitment
The apprenticeship includes a 3-year fixed contract. Apprentices who leave the programme early or fail to complete the work-back period may be liable for repayment of training costs based on the timing of withdrawal. The full qualification must be completed within 4 years.
Apprentice Duties

Minimum Entry Requirements

Valid driver’s license

Good communication, administration, and computer literacy

N2 Qualification with the following subjects:

Mathematics

Engineering Science

Diesel Trade Theory

Plus one of: Industrial Electronics, Engineering Drawing, or Motor Trade Theory

Matric Certificate with:

Mathematics (Not Mathematical Literacy) – Passed

Applicants without N2 qualifications may complete them through Further Education & Training sponsored by AFGRI as part of the programme.

Assessment Process
Applicants must complete an online screening and assessment (approx. 30–60 minutes). Shortlisted candidates will be invited for interviews and assessments as part of the final selection process.
