We are seeking a qualified and experienced Underground Electrician to join our dynamic mining team. This critical role is responsible for the maintenance, repair, replacement, and upgrade of underground electrical components, with a focus on medium voltage (MV) systems including switchgear, substations, and MCCs. The successful candidate will ensure all activities are completed in line with Mine Health and Safety Act regulations, contributing to optimal Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) and supporting our commitment to a zero-harm work environment.


Minimum Requirements For The Gold Fields Group Electrician

  • Grade 12 / Matric Certificate or equivalent

  • Trade Certificate in Electrical (Recognized by relevant SETA or QCTO)

  • Minimum 5 years’ underground mining experience as an Electrician

  • At least 5 years of experience working with medium voltage systems, substations, and related infrastructure

  • Must be declared medically fit for the working environment, including passing:

    • Heat Tolerance Screening

    • Gold Fields Occupational Health Centre assessments

  • Legal certification to perform electrical work in mining environments will be advantageous


Key Competencies

  • Strong background in electrical safety leadership and compliance

  • Working knowledge of low and medium voltage installations

  • Inspection and fault-finding skills aligned with regulatory standards

  • Sound knowledge of winders, MCCs, conveyors, crushers, and mining infrastructure

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

  • Ability to diagnose root causes of faults and perform preventative maintenance

  • Adaptable with the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines

  • Willingness to work shifts, overtime, and be on standby as operational needs dictate


Responsibilities

  • Maintain safety standards through the implementation of legislation, policies, and SOPs

  • Perform legal inspections of all electrical installations and ensure documentation is updated

  • Execute both scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, ensuring timely response to breakdowns

  • Conduct repairs and construction on MCCs, switchgear, crushers, and other electrical infrastructure

  • Diagnose and rectify faults, perform root cause analyses, and recommend improvements

  • Support the installation of new equipment, including cable routing and panel wiring

  • Maintain detailed records of maintenance work and participate in work order reporting

  • Collaborate with team members to foster a culture of safety and operational efficiency

  • Identify and request necessary tools, spares, and equipment for task completion

  • Participate in training and development, particularly related to Winder systems and related technologies
