About the Role

Roche DIA Cape Town is seeking a skilled and proactive Engineering Technician to provide front-line technical support for equipment and facilities. This role supports both the Operations and Reagent and Assay Development Functional Units through planned and unplanned maintenance, coordination with external service providers, and continuous improvement initiatives.

This is a hands-on technical position ideal for a professional with experience in manufacturing, diagnostics, biotech, or pharmaceuticals.


Key Responsibilities For The Roche Engineering Technician

  • Plan, schedule, and oversee Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) and calibrations, coordinating with external service providers via indirect procurement channels.

  • Troubleshoot and repair equipment, ensuring minimal disruption in a controlled production environment.

  • Execute and complete all maintenance and calibration work orders, updating computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) accordingly.

  • Notify department managers, contact persons, and QA teams of failed calibrations or maintenance, and label systems per compliance protocols.

  • Maintain an accurate inventory of spare parts and consumables used during PPM activities.

  • Ensure all maintenance-related documentation and software systems reflect current status and job progress.

  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives by evaluating opportunities to bring outsourced PPM and calibration activities in-house.

  • Support environmental monitoring programs, including temperature control and water sampling.


Who You Are

  • Tertiary qualification in Engineering (e.g. Instrumentation, Electrical)
    OR
    Recognized Instrumentation/Electrical trade qualification with a minimum of 3 years’ relevant industry experience.

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a manufacturing, biotech, pharmaceutical, or diagnostic environment.

  • Solid understanding of equipment maintenance, compliance processes, and calibration protocols.

  • Knowledge of SAP and other maintenance management systems.

  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines

  • Strong technical troubleshooting and analytical skills

  • Excellent communication skills – able to explain complex technical issues to both technical and non-technical stakeholders

  • Skilled in stakeholder engagement and vendor management

  • High level of collaboration and adaptability in a global matrix organization

  • Proficiency in updating and navigating maintenance software systems
