About the Role

Are you an experienced Red Seal Electrician or Millwright looking to advance your career in a fast-paced, high-output FMCG manufacturing environment? We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Electrical Maintenance Technician to join our engineering team and support production by executing preventative, routine, and emergency maintenance of plant electrical systems. This is a hands-on role where safety, efficiency, and problem-solving are key.


Purpose of the Role

The Electrical Maintenance Technician will be responsible for performing and managing maintenance tasks and electrical projects to support continuous production and equipment reliability. This includes ensuring plant and machinery are functioning optimally, adhering to strict safety standards, and contributing to the overall productivity and performance of the plant.


Key Responsibilities For The Nampak Electrician Job Opportunity

  • Provide electrical maintenance and technical support across the facility to ensure optimal operation of production equipment.

  • Conduct troubleshooting and fault finding on PLC systems (Siemens S7, Omron) and other electrical components.

  • Perform routine and emergency repairs on motors, transformers, control panels, switchgear, and general plant wiring.

  • Ensure planned maintenance is carried out as per schedule and that all maintenance activities are logged accurately.

  • Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns and perform root cause analysis to prevent recurrence.

  • Adhere strictly to all health and safety regulations, legal compliance standards, and company policies.

  • Apply lean manufacturing and foundation maintenance practices to reduce downtime, improve asset reliability, and eliminate waste.

  • Maintain and update electrical schematic drawings and work procedures when necessary.

  • Support continuous improvement projects, contributing to increased plant efficiency and safety.

  • Work with high-speed production lines, inspection systems (including camera-based), and combustion equipment.

  • Handle electrical issues related to VSDs, DOL starters, hydraulics, pneumatics, and temporary control systems.


Qualifications & Experience

  • Matric (Grade 12) plus Red Seal Trade Test (Electrician or Millwright essential).

  • Minimum of 3 years’ electrical maintenance experience in a high-speed FMCG manufacturing environment.

  • Sound knowledge of electrical problem-solving, with the ability to interpret and fault-find using electrical schematics.

  • Experience with oven combustion systems, PLC diagnostics, and inspection camera systems is highly desirable.

  • Strong understanding of industrial electrical systems, plant automation, and preventative maintenance systems.

  • Excellent analytical and diagnostic skills.

  • Hands-on expertise in hard-wired relay logic and fault finding.

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to work across departments and levels.

  • Must be proactive, reliable, and self-motivated.

  • Able to perform under pressure, independently and as part of a team.

  • Must be willing to work shifts, overtime, and be on standby when necessary.
