South Deep Gold Mine, a renowned operation of Gold Fields Group, is offering an excellent opportunity for unemployed youth and aspiring tradespeople within its host communities to apply for its Engineering Learnership Programme in Rigger / Ropesman. This structured training programme equips learners with both theoretical knowledge and hands-on practical skills to develop a career in mining engineering and earn a formal artisan qualification.
 Who Can Apply?
This opportunity is exclusively for residents of South Deep’s host communities, which include:
 Bekkersdaal, Zuurberkom, Thusanang, Hillshaven, Westonaria, Poortjie, Simunye, Kalbasfontein, and Jachtfontein.
Applicants must:

Have Grade 12 with Mathematics and Physical Science

Hold a full N2 qualification with 4 trade-specific subjects:

Engineering Mathematics

Engineering Science
-
N2 Rigging Trade Theory

Engineering Drawing
-

Be declared medically fit through a risk-based medical exam and successfully pass a Heat Tolerance Screening Test at the Gold Fields Occupational Health Centre
 Learnership Overview – Rigger / Ropesman
This Engineering Learnership Programme offers both on-site technical training and external theoretical education, tailored to prepare candidates for the demanding yet rewarding role of a Rigger or Ropesman in the mining sector.
Key Duties Include

Completing technical training and short courses as required by MQA and the mine

Participating in developmental feedback sessions

Adhering to the mine’s policies, code of conduct, and safety protocols

Demonstrating effective teamwork and professionalism

Wearing prescribed PPE at all times on-site or during training
