Job Description

Are you ready to launch a hands-on career in mechanical maintenance? AECI is offering a structured Mechanical Fitter Apprenticeship program designed to equip young, motivated individuals with the essential skills and qualifications to become certified artisans in the mechanical trade.

As an apprentice, you will receive both on-the-job training and formal instruction through a certified training provider (Shukela Training Centre). This program combines technical classroom learning with real-world experience, ensuring you gain comprehensive knowledge in plant maintenance and mechanical systems.


Key Responsibilities For The AECI Apprentice Mechanical Fitter

  • Acquire trade-related skills in mechanical fitting through hands-on work and training.

  • Participate in scheduled training blocks (60 days per year) at an accredited training centre.

  • Assist qualified Fitters in maintaining and repairing plant equipment, such as pumps, centrifuges, steam traps, and steam systems.

  • Keep and maintain an accurate logbook for training progress.

  • Adhere to AECI’s strict health, safety, and environmental standards.

  • Support daily routine maintenance tasks and breakdown repairs under supervision.

  • Efficient use of hand and power tools for maintenance and repair work.

  • Collaborate with teammates and mentors to complete maintenance goals safely and efficiently.

  • Assist with standby duties during the second year of the program.


Minimum Requirements

  • Matric (Grade 12) with Mathematics and Physical Science

  • N3 qualification (required for Trade Test preparation)

  • Valid Driver’s License (advantageous)

  • Ability to obtain medical clearance to work in a chemical environment

  • Basic mechanical experience is a plus

  • Familiarity with hand tools and power tools is beneficial
