Aberdare Cables, a respected leader in the South African cable manufacturing industry, invites unemployed South African youth to apply for its 2025 Engineering Apprenticeship Programme. This initiative forms part of our commitment to empowering the next generation of technical professionals and creating meaningful employment pathways in the fields of engineering and manufacturing.

This structured programme provides learners with the opportunity to gain hands-on experience, receive expert mentorship, and develop the technical skills necessary to qualify as artisans. If you are passionate about engineering, eager to grow in a highly skilled trade, and meet the minimum requirements, this opportunity is for you.


 Available Apprenticeship Trades (9 Positions Available)

We are offering the following apprenticeship positions at our Pietermaritzburg site:

  • Fitter Apprenticeship: 4 Positions

  • Electrician Apprenticeship: 3 Positions

  • Boilermaker Apprenticeship: 2 Positions

Each of these roles plays a critical part in the production and maintenance processes within our operations, and apprentices will be trained using both theoretical instruction and practical application.


 Minimum Entry Requirements For The 9 Aberdare Cables Engineering Apprentices

To be eligible for this apprenticeship programme, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • A Grade 12 (Matric) Certificate with Mathematics and Physical Science

  • A relevant N3 qualification with applicable trade theory subjects

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • South African citizenship

  • A genuine interest in pursuing a technical career and a willingness to learn


 What You Can Expect from the Apprenticeship

The Aberdare Cables apprenticeship is a minimum three-year programme that includes:

  • Formal classroom-based phase training at an accredited Training Centre (in Pinetown – travel at your own cost)

  • On-the-job training and exposure to real manufacturing operations under the guidance of experienced artisans and engineers

  • Signing of an apprenticeship contract as required by the relevant SETA, which replaces any previous contracts

  • Development of practical, job-relevant skills that meet industry and national trade standards

  • A stipend and necessary support throughout your training period

Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship and passing your trade test, you may be considered for permanent employment at Aberdare Cables, subject to performance and business requirements.
