Exxaro Resources is seeking skilled and motivated Turners to join our operations at Grootegeluk Coal Business Unitin Lephalale. This permanent role requires strong technical expertise in operating and programming CNC machines, particularly lathes and milling machines, within a heavy industry or mining environment.

As a Turner, you’ll be responsible for producing precision components, ensuring machinery is maintained to the highest standards, and mentoring Artisan Aides and trainees. Your attention to detail and commitment to health and safety will play a key role in maintaining Exxaro’s operational excellence and innovation standards.


 Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12 / Standard 10 (Essential)

  • N3 Certificate with relevant trade subjects (Essential)

  • Trade Qualification: Fitter/Turner (MQA/QCTO accredited) (Essential)

  • 2–3 years of relevant technical experience in a heavy industrial or mining setting (Essential)

  • Proven experience operating and programming CNC machinery (lathe & milling)

  • Certificate of Fitness (To be conducted by Exxaro)

  • Psychometric Assessment (To be conducted by Exxaro)

  • Competence in Core and On-the-Job MQA Modules (Essential)

  • High attention to detail and problem-solving ability

  • Strong understanding of safety protocols and quality standards


 Key Responsibilities For The 2 Turner Positions at Exxaro

  • Set up, operate, and program CNC lathes and milling machines to ensure production of high-quality components.

  • Conduct routine equipment inspections, preventative maintenance, and fault diagnostics to reduce downtime.

  • Mentor and support Artisan Aides and trainees, promoting skills development and technical knowledge.

  • Execute planned maintenance tasks, new equipment installations, and maintain detailed service records.

  • Conduct risk assessments and enforce SHEC (Safety, Health, Environment, and Community) standards at all times.

  • Manage and plan spares and material requirements to eliminate production delays.

  • Collaborate with engineering and operations teams to drive efficiency and continuous improvement.

  • Identify and report hazards, unsafe conditions, or practices in the workplace.
