We are seeking motivated and technically inclined individuals to join our dynamic rail maintenance team as Production Assistants at the Gautrain Maintenance Depot in Midrand, Johannesburg. This entry-level technical role is a great opportunity to gain practical experience in the railway industry by assisting in the preventative and corrective maintenance of rolling stock to ensure the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of trains.

Key Responsibilities

As a Production Assistant, your main responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting the maintenance team in preventative and corrective maintenance activities for train systems and rolling stock.

  • Supporting the team to ensure trains are safe, operational, and compliant with customer expectations and safety standards.

  • Following and enforcing all quality, safety, and operational procedures.

  • Performing basic MAXIMO system administration and record-keeping of maintenance work.

  • Using tools, materials, and equipment responsibly and effectively in accordance with job specifications.

  • Promoting a culture of continuous improvement, teamwork, and self-discipline in the workplace.

  • Willingness to work rotating shifts, including night shifts, weekends, overtime, and public holidays as required.


Minimum Qualifications and Requirements

To be considered for this role, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Matric / Grade 12 Certificate (Essential)

  • S4 or N6 National Certificate (must have completed theoretical modules only – P1 & P2 excluded)

  • Physically fit and robust to handle workshop and track-side tasks

  • Ability to see in full colour (essential for safety-related inspections)

  • Good hearing capabilities (due to noise exposure in rail environments)

  • Must be willing and able to work at heights

  • Must be a South African Citizen

  • Previous rail or production maintenance experience will be advantageous
