We are currently recruiting a Mechanical Technical Assistant to join our Cape Town-based hospital team, contributing to high-impact healthcare operations.


Minimum Requirements For The Mechanical Technical Assistant at Servest

To be considered for this role, candidates must meet the following minimum criteria:

  • Must be a South African citizen

  • Preferably reside in the Western Cape

  • Grade 12 / Matric certificate

  • 5+ years of experience in a mechanical maintenance or facilities management environment

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications: Word, Excel, Outlook

  • Clear criminal record

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively under supervision

  • Must be able to work in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment

  • Strong time-management and organizational skills


Key Responsibilities

As a Mechanical Technical Assistant, your daily duties will include:

  • Support the Mechanical Technician in all planned and unplanned maintenance activities

  • Execute assigned work orders and maintenance tasks effectively and efficiently

  • Conduct routine maintenance and repairs on HVAC systems, mechanical plant equipment, and heating infrastructure

  • Carry out emergency mechanical repairs to ensure uninterrupted hospital operations

  • Replace and repair mechanical components, including pumps, motors, valves, and piping systems

  • Perform minor painting and surface treatment tasks when necessary

  • Assist in the installation and replacement of HVAC systems

  • Maintain and operate hand and power tools safely and effectively

  • Ensure a safe working environment for all team members by adhering to health and safety policies and procedures

  • Provide general support to maintenance technicians and other facility operators

  • Ensure optimal use of company time and resources

  • Maintain accurate records of work completed

  • Perform any other related duties as assigned by the Facilities Manager


Skills and Competencies

  • Sound knowledge of HVAC and mechanical systems

  • Ability to use tools and diagnostic equipment effectively

  • Familiarity with hospital safety regulations and infection control procedures

  • High attention to detail and a commitment to quality work

  • Ability to multitask and prioritize repairs and maintenance requests
