Purpose of the Role
The Artisan Maintenance Technician is responsible for diagnosing faults, performing maintenance and repairs, and ensuring the safety and operational readiness of machinery and equipment. You will play a key role in ensuring compliance with engineering and safety standards while supporting production goals.
Key Responsibilities For The Engineering Artisan Fitter at Minopex

Diagnose, troubleshoot, and maintain mechanical equipment in accordance with engineering specifications and best practices

Conduct routine and non-routine maintenance and repair activities to ensure equipment efficiency and reliability

Perform daily equipment inspections as required by the Mine Health and Safety Act (MHSA) and company safety regulations

Identify, report, and record equipment defects, breakdowns, and required repairs to the Supervisor and Planning Office

Modify, construct, install, or upgrade mechanical systems and components where required
-
Verify that completed work meets technical safety and operational standards

Monitor and analyze equipment failures and performance to identify continuous improvement opportunities

Collaborate with production teams to align maintenance activities with operational schedules

Update maintenance records and systems to support planned and asset maintenance programs

Adhere to safety policies, legal requirements, and engineering best practices
Minimum Qualification Requirements
-
Matric / Grade 12 or equivalent NQF Level 4 qualification
-
Relevant NATED courses (e.g., N3 Certificate in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering)
-
Valid Trade Test Certificate – Section 13 or Section 26(D) (Recognized Artisan status)
-
Valid driver’s license (Code B, EB, or C1)
-
Own reliable transport – ability to respond to call-outs
Experience and Skills Requirements
-
2–3 years’ experience working as a qualified artisan in a concentrator or mineral processing plant
-
Proficiency in English (verbal and written)

Sound knowledge of engineering systems, maintenance procedures, and production support

Excellent time management and ability to prioritize tasks effectively
-
High standard of safety awareness and work ethic
