About the Role
We are seeking a skilled and qualified Mechanical Technician to provide expert technical support in the mechanical maintenance of Sandvik mining equipment. The goal is to enhance the reliability, availability, and overall performance of underground and surface mining machinery while ensuring cost-effective operations. This position is ideal for candidates with a strong background in diesel mechanics, auto-electrical systems, or millwright trade, particularly within the earthmoving equipment or mechanised mining industry.
Key Responsibilities For The Sandvik Mining Workshop Technician

Conduct routine inspections and maintenance on Sandvik mining equipment

Diagnose faults and malfunctions to ensure optimal operational performance

Adjust equipment and replace or repair defective parts/components as needed

Compile parts and labour estimates for additional repair work

Follow work instructions within strict timelines to meet service delivery targets

Perform functional testing post-repairs to validate performance and safety

Keep detailed records and prepare technical reports

Engage in continuous improvement and stay updated on industry developments and best practices

Interpret engineering drawings, product manuals, and electrical/mechanical schematics
Minimum Requirements

Grade 12 (Matric) or equivalent qualification

Trade Certificate of Competence in Diesel Mechanic, Auto Electrician, or Millwright (apprenticeship contract required)

At least 4 years of experience working with mechanised mining equipment

Strong understanding of earthmoving equipment maintenance

Proven experience working with Sandvik underground product lines (advantageous)

Familiarity with technical schematics, manuals, and engineering drawings

Valid South African driver’s license
-
Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Strong attention to detail and problem-solving abilities

Computer literacy (MS Office)
Desirable Skills
-
Hands-on knowledge of Sandvik equipment such as loaders, drill rigs, bolters

Experience with underground mining operations
-
Proficiency in technical fault diagnosis

Team-oriented with a focus on safety and productivity

Ability to work independently and in high-pressure environments
