We are currently seeking a skilled Underground Electrician to join our engineering and mining team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the repair, replacement, installation, and maintenance of medium and low voltage electrical systems in underground mining operations. This includes maintaining equipment records, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, and maximizing Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE).
This role is critical to ensuring that our underground electrical infrastructure operates efficiently, reliably, and in accordance with the Mine Health and Safety Act and company safety standards.
Minimum Requirements For the Gold Fields Group Artisan Electrician

Grade 12 / Matric certificate or equivalent
-
Recognized Trade Certificate in Electrical Work
-
Minimum 5 years of experience as an underground electrician
-
Proven experience with medium voltage (MV) systems, including substations, mini-substations, and switchgear
-
Medically fit for underground mining work (as assessed by risk-based medical exam & heat tolerance test)

Valid driver’s license (if applicable)

Proven safety leadership and hazard identification

Strong knowledge of low and medium voltage electrical systems

Ability to diagnose and repair breakdowns

Hands-on experience with:

MCCs

Winders

Substations

Crushers

Conveyors

Experience conducting legal inspections on electrical installations

Effective communication and teamwork

Proficient in root cause analysis and preventative maintenance

Familiarity with electrical records, defect logging systems, and planned maintenance
 Key Responsibilities
-
Ensure the health and safety of self and team by complying with Mine Health and Safety Act regulations
-
Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on all electrical installations and mining equipment
-
Maintain detailed records of maintenance activities on winders and other key infrastructure
-
Respond to breakdowns promptly and conduct effective root cause analysis
-
Perform legal inspections on all electrical infrastructure
-
Assist in the construction and expansion of new underground electrical installations
-
Identify and request spare parts as required, logging all defects appropriately
-
Participate in on-call standby, overtime, and emergency breakdown response as needed
-
Support team collaboration and promote a culture of continuous improvement and zero harm
