Purpose of the Role
We are currently seeking a qualified and experienced Fitter to join our engineering and maintenance team. This role is vital to ensuring the operational reliability and safety of critical mechanical systems and equipment in a mining or heavy industrial setting. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing repairs, maintenance, fault diagnosis, and installations of mechanical components in both underground and surface operations.
Minimum Requirements & Qualifying Criteria
Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements to be considered for this role:

Educational Qualification:
-
Grade 11 or an equivalent qualification is essential
-

Trade Qualification:
-
Recognised Trade Certificate as a Fitter (Section 13 or Section 26D) is compulsory
-
-
Work Experience:
-
A minimum of 3 years’ post-apprenticeship experience in a mining or heavy industrial environment
-
Proven experience working in conventional underground mining operations
-
-
Technical Skills:
-
Sound understanding of hydraulic and pneumatic systems
-
Basic welding and pipe fitting skills
-
Exposure to planned maintenance systems such as CMMS or SAP PM
-

Additional Requirements:
-
Must be willing to work rotational shifts and overtime, including weekends and public holidays, as operationally required
-
Must have a valid South African driver’s license
-
Must be a South African citizen
-
Clear criminal record
-
Must be declared medically fit for underground work by an Occupational Health Practitioner (OHP)
-
Key Responsibilities For The Gold One Group Fitter Artisan
Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
-
Perform routine and scheduled maintenance, as well as unscheduled repairs, on mining equipment including:
-
Pumps
-
Conveyors
-
Crushers
-
Winches
-
Gearboxes
-
Other mechanical systems in underground and surface operations
-

Conduct detailed inspections, fault finding, and root cause analysis to identify potential mechanical issues and recommend solutions
-
Install and assemble new mechanical components and ensure equipment alignment and calibration
-
Maintain accurate records of:
-
Maintenance activities
-
Spare parts usage
-
Safety inspections
-
Job cards and reports
-
-
Adhere to health, safety, and environmental (HSE) policies and procedures at all times
-
Participate in planned maintenance shutdowns and respond to emergency equipment breakdowns
-
Collaborate closely with other departments, including Engineering and Production, to improve equipment uptime and reduce operational downtime
-
Proactively identify opportunities to improve equipment performance and reliability
