Purpose of the Position
The primary purpose of this role is to manage, maintain, and repair all electrical equipment and wiring within the service yard and refinery. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring optimal plant performance, minimising downtime, and maintaining compliance with SHEQ legislation and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities For The Rand Refinery Artisan Electrician
The responsibilities of the Electrical Technician include, but are not limited to:

Ensuring all plant and equipment in the service yard and refinery are fully functional from an electrical perspective to reduce downtime.

Performing accurate and timely repairs and maintenance on electrical breakdowns.

Conducting proactive and planned maintenance tasks in line with schedules to prevent failures.

Adhering strictly to SHEQ standards, including producing safety cards where required.

Liaising with buyers or sourcing necessary parts, spares, and equipment for general maintenance.

Assisting and supporting colleagues in equipment and machinery maintenance, including training junior staff where required.

Supervising and guiding assistants or contractors during maintenance tasks.

Carrying out lockouts on systems when necessary to ensure safe operations.

Participating in standby and shift work in the service yard and refinery as required.
Minimum Requirements

National Certificate (NQF Level 4) in Electrical Engineering with a recognised Electrical Trade Test.

At least 5–7 years of relevant work experience, preferably in the FMCG or manufacturing industry.

Experience with HT switching will be considered an advantage.
Skills and Competencies

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook) and SAP.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Ability to interpret and explain electrical information clearly to stakeholders.

Effective planning and organising skills.

Advanced fault-finding abilities.
Knowledge Requirements

In-depth knowledge of plant compliance requirements to ensure machinery is maintained to standard.

Ability to assess and apply the correct tools and test equipment for specific jobs.

Strong ability to identify potential risks in equipment.

Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical electrical drawings.

Solid knowledge and practical understanding of HT switching.

Sound knowledge of SHEQ practices, policies, and procedures, with the ability to apply them effectively in daily operations.
