Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Plant Maintenance Technician to join our bakery’s engineering and maintenance team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the repair, servicing, and optimization of both electrical and mechanical equipment, ensuring smooth and efficient plant operations.


Key Responsibilities For The Premier Artisan Boilermaker

  • Monitor, adjust, and optimize plant set points for effective production.

  • Inspect electrical and mechanical equipment across the bakery site.

  • Identify, report, and repair potential and existing defects.

  • Perform scheduled preventative maintenance on electrical and mechanical assets.

  • Carry out fault-finding and repairs on equipment, including PLC, SCADA, and speed drives.

  • Complete installation and project work as required.

  • Provide standby support on a rotational basis and respond to breakdowns.

  • Maintain daily report books and liaise with the Maintenance Manager.

  • Fabricate and repair steel work and pipe work when necessary.

  • Ensure all work complies with OHSA safety standards.


Qualification Requirements

  • Trade Test with N3/N6 Engineering qualification.

  • MERSETA qualification (essential).

  • Valid driver’s license and own set of tools.


Experience Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years’ post-qualification experience in a bakery or food manufacturing environment.

  • Hands-on knowledge of:

    • PLC and SCADA systems

    • Electrical power distribution (low and medium voltage)

    • Scales, pneumatics, hydraulics, instrumentation, and speed drives

  • Ability to read, interpret, and update electrical and mechanical drawings.

  • Strong understanding of mechanical safety checks under OHSA.


Key Skills & Competencies

  • Strong planning and organising skills.

  • Ability to work effectively in a team and under pressure.

  • Proficiency in MS Office and computerised maintenance systems.

  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).

  • Ability to work flexible hours, including shift work and overtime.

  • Willingness to support other jobs within the maintenance department as needed.
