Position Purpose
The purpose of this apprenticeship is to equip learners with the skills and knowledge required to become competent, qualified artisans. The electrician apprentice will receive structured training to:

• Plan and prepare for electrical work.

• Install, manufacture, connect, assemble, test, and inspect control systems, installations, and assemblies.

• Commission, maintain, modify, and repair electrical equipment.

• Apply technical knowledge effectively across a variety of workplace contexts.

Key Outputs / Responsibilities For The Transnet 2026 Apprentice Electrician

• Plan and prepare the work site, equipment, tools, consumables, and materials for trade-related activities.

• Use hand tools, power tools, and measuring instruments correctly and safely.

• Install, assemble, fit, and connect electrical equipment and control systems.

• Test, inspect, and commission electrical systems and installations.

• Maintain, modify, and repair electrical equipment, control systems, and related assemblies.

Minimum Qualifications & Experience

Candidates must have one of the following:

N2 Subjects

• Electrical Trade Theory

• Industrial Electronics

• Engineering Science

• Mathematics (Pure)

OR N3–N6 Subjects

• Industrial Electronics

• Mathematics (Pure)

• Engineering Science

• Electrotechnology

• Industrial Technology / Industrial Electronics

OR NCV Level 4

• Fundamentals: English (First Additional Language), Mathematics (Pure), Life Orientation

• Vocational subjects: Electrical Principles & Practice, Workshop Practice, Electronic Control & Digital Electronics

• Optional (choose one): Electrical Systems & Construction / Renewable Energy Technologies

OR Technical Grade 12

• Life Orientation

• Mathematics (Pure)

• Electrical Technology

• Physical Science

• Engineering Graphics & Design

• Home Language

• First Additional Language
