Position Purpose
An apprenticeship is a structured work-based learning programme under the supervision and guidance of a qualified Artisan within the workplace. In addition, apprentices attend formal instruction sessions at an accredited training facility to gain theoretical knowledge aligned with the national Technical Certificate courses.


Key Outputs / Responsibilities
The apprenticeship aims to develop the ability to:

  • Plan and prepare the work site, equipment, tools, consumables, and materials for trade-related activities.

  • Use hand, power, and measuring tools safely and effectively.

  • Install, assemble, fit, and connect electrical equipment and control systems.

  • Test, inspect, and commission electrical equipment, installations, and assemblies.

  • Maintain, modify, and repair electrical systems and related components.


Minimum Qualifications & Experience For The Transnet 2026 Apprentice Millwright 

Applicants must hold one of the following:

N2 Subjects

  • Electrical Trade Theory

  • Industrial Electronics

  • Engineering Science

OR N3 Subjects

  • Industrial Electronics

  • Mathematics (Pure)

  • Engineering Science

  • Electro-technology / Electrotechnics

  • Fitting & Machining

  • Engineering Drawing

OR NCV Level 4

  • Fundamentals: English (First Additional Language), Mathematics (Pure), Life Orientation

  • Vocational subjects: Engineering Process, Professional Engineering Practice, Applied Engineering Technology, Fitting & Turning

OR Technical Grade 12

  • Life Orientation

  • Mathematics (Pure)

  • Engineering Graphics & Design

  • Home Language

  • First Additional Language

  • Physical Science

  • Fitting & Machining

  • Mechanical Technology

Other Requirements

  • Age: 18–35 years
