Key Duties & Responsibilities

Assist qualified artisans with all maintenance and repair activities to ensure minimum downtime and optimal machine performance.

Respond promptly to breakdowns, providing effective support in identifying and resolving mechanical or electrical faults.

Carry out minor breakdown repairs and small installations independently, demonstrating sound technical ability and problem-solving skills.

Assist with the disassembly, cleaning, and reassembly of production machinery and equipment during planned maintenance or deep cleaning activities.

Execute preventative maintenance schedules under supervision to help identify potential issues before breakdowns occur.

Maintain accurate records by completing job cards, maintenance checklists, and reports timeously and accurately.

Ensure tools and equipment are properly cleaned, stored, and maintained in good working order at all times.

Comply with all safety standards and procedures, ensuring a clean and hazard-free working environment.

Perform general housekeeping and ad-hoc duties as required by the Shift Artisan or Maintenance Foreman.
Minimum Requirements

Grade 12 (Matric) with Mathematics ≥ 50%.

A Technical qualification (N3–N6) in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering will be a strong advantage.

At least 2 years’ experience as a Maintenance Assistant, Artisan Assistant, or similar role in a manufacturing or industrial environment.

Hands-on practical experience working with tools, machinery, and workshop equipment is essential.

Basic knowledge of preventative maintenance principles and mechanical or electrical systems.

Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and a willingness to learn from senior artisans.

A positive attitude, team spirit, and commitment to workplace safety and excellence.
