The Engineering Learnership Programme (18.2 – Unemployed) provides structured training designed to prepare learners for technical roles within the mining industry.
The programme is structured to include both off-the-job training and workplace-based practical learning.
During the theoretical training component, learners will gain knowledge related to:
Electrical engineering fundamentals
Electrical safety and compliance standards
Industrial electrical systems
Electrical maintenance procedures
Electrical drawings and circuit diagrams
Trade-related technical concepts
Learners will also receive practical training by working in real operational environments within the mining industry. This allows them to apply theoretical knowledge while developing practical skills.
Workplace training may include:
Electrical equipment installation and maintenance
Fault-finding and electrical troubleshooting
Maintenance of electrical systems used in mining operations
Working with experienced technicians and artisans
Following safety procedures in industrial environments
Upon successful completion of the programme, participants will obtain a nationally recognised Artisan qualification, enabling them to pursue professional opportunities as qualified electricians.

Participants will gain training and experience in areas such as:
Installation and maintenance of electrical systems

Understanding electrical diagrams and technical drawings
Compliance with electrical safety regulations and industry standards

Applicants must meet one of the following academic requirements in order to be considered for the programme.
Grade 12 (Matric) with the following subjects:
Mathematics (Mathematics Literacy will not be accepted)
Physical Science
English
All subjects must have been passed with a minimum of 40%.
Applicants may also qualify with N2 or higher provided the following subjects are included:
Electrical Trade Theory or Electrotechnology or Electrotechnics
Industrial Electronics
Engineering Drawings
Mathematics
Engineering Science
NCV Level 4 in an appropriate trade
All subjects must be passed with a minimum of 40%

A detailed Curriculum Vitae (CV)
Certified copies of all relevant qualifications
A copy of a valid South African Identity Document
Proof of residence for applicants from host communities
Proof of residence must include a stamp from the relevant tribal authority or municipality.
