A leading service and maintenance team in the lift and escalator industry is currently recruiting for a Service Repair Assistant. This role offers an excellent opportunity for individuals who are technically inclined and interested in working with elevators, escalators, and related mechanical systems.
If you are looking to gain hands-on experience in maintenance, repairs, and system upgrades within a high-demand technical field, this position provides a strong foundation for long-term career growth.
The Service Repair Assistant plays a critical role in ensuring the safe operation, reliability, and efficiency of elevator and escalator systems. The position focuses on assisting with diagnosing faults, performing repairs, and supporting system upgrades while maintaining high safety and service standards.
This role is ideal for candidates who enjoy problem-solving, working with mechanical and electrical systems, and delivering quality service in a technical environment.
The successful candidate will assist with both scheduled and unscheduled maintenance of elevators, escalators, and other lift systems. This includes routine inspections, servicing components, and ensuring that equipment remains in optimal working condition.
You will be involved in troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic faults. This requires identifying the root cause of issues and supporting repair processes to restore system functionality as quickly as possible.
Emergency repair work will form part of the role. The ability to respond quickly and efficiently to breakdowns is essential to minimize downtime and ensure customer satisfaction.
The role also involves assisting with the installation and commissioning of system upgrades. These upgrades are aimed at improving safety, efficiency, and performance of existing lift systems.
You will work closely with engineering teams to support modernization projects, ensuring that older systems are upgraded in line with current industry standards and customer requirements.
Safety is a core part of this role. You will be required to follow all health and safety procedures, including the correct use of tools, personal protective equipment (PPE), and lockout/tagout protocols.
Regular safety inspections must be carried out to ensure that all equipment complies with local regulations and operational standards.
Accurate documentation of maintenance work, repairs, and safety checks is required. This ensures traceability and compliance with company and legal requirements.
The role involves direct interaction with clients. You will need to communicate clearly and professionally when explaining repairs, maintenance work, and potential improvements to lift systems.
Providing timely updates to clients during service or repair activities is important to maintain trust and ensure a positive customer experience.
You will work as part of a team alongside technicians, supervisors, and engineers. Collaboration is essential to ensure that all tasks are completed efficiently and to a high standard.
Participation in team meetings, technical training, and skills development sessions will be required. This helps ensure that you remain up to date with new technologies, tools, and industry best practices.
Applicants must have completed Matric (Grade 12) as a minimum educational requirement.
An additional qualification in lift installation or related technical fields will be considered an advantage, but is not mandatory.
The ideal candidate should have strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think logically when diagnosing technical issues.
Attention to detail is critical, as the role involves working with complex systems where precision and accuracy are essential.
Candidates must be able to work independently when required, while also being capable of functioning effectively within a team environment.
Good communication and interpersonal skills are important, especially when interacting with clients and colleagues.
A strong commitment to safety, quality, and professional standards is essential for success in this role.
This position provides valuable exposure to the lift and escalator industry, which is a highly specialized and in-demand field. With experience, candidates can progress into roles such as Lift Technician, Maintenance Specialist, or Field Service Engineer.
The skills gained in this role, including mechanical troubleshooting, electrical diagnostics, and system maintenance, are highly transferable across multiple technical industries.
