South African unemployed youth now have an exciting opportunity to apply for the Diesel Mechanic Apprenticeship Programme 2026 offered by the Tsolo Agriculture and Rural Development Institute (TARDI) in partnership with the Transport Education and Training Authority (TETA).
This fully structured artisan development programme is aimed at helping young people gain valuable technical skills, workplace experience, and nationally recognised training within the diesel mechanic and engineering sector.

The Occupational Certificate: Diesel Mechanic Apprenticeship is a 36-month artisan training programme designed to combine:

The apprenticeship programme will run for:
36 Months

25 Apprentices
will be selected for the programme.
Programme Structure
The apprenticeship programme consists of three important training phases:
Phase 1 – Institutional Training (6 Months)
Learners will undergo:
- Theoretical training
- Practical technical training
- Engineering workshop exposure
- Mechanical systems learning
- Diesel mechanic fundamentals
Phase 2 – Workplace Experiential Training (24 Months)
During this phase, learners will gain:
- Real workplace exposure

Training Location Important Notice
Applicants should note that the institutional training component will NOT take place at the Tsolo Campus in the Eastern Cape.
Training will instead be conducted at an approved offsite training centre in:
Wadeville, Johannesburg – Gauteng Province
Applicants must therefore:
- Be willing to relocate to Gauteng
- Be prepared to participate fully in all training phases
- Be committed to completing the programme successfully
Monthly Stipend
Successful apprentices may receive:
R3 000 Monthly Stipend
The stipend is subject to:
- Attendance
- Performance
- SETA programme conditions
Minimum Requirements
To qualify for the Diesel Mechanic Apprenticeship Opportunity 2026, applicants must:
- Be South African citizens
- Be between 18 and 33 years old
- Be currently unemployed
- Have an N2 qualification or higher in:
- Diesel Mechanic
- Mechanical Engineering
- Motor Mechanics
- Related Engineering Studies
- Have passed Mathematics
- Have passed Engineering Science or Physical Science
Preference Will Be Given To
The programme may prioritise:
- Youth from the Eastern Cape Province
- TVET College graduates
- Female applicants
