Job Description:

Are you a highly skilled and experienced Fitter with a passion for maintaining and repairing plant equipment in a chemical manufacturing environment? We are seeking a dedicated and proactive individual to join our team. This role is crucial for ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of our plant, maximizing production output, and adhering to strict safety standards.

 

Responsibilities For The AECI Mechanical Fitter Job Opportunity

 

Plant Maintenance & Repair: Perform hands-on maintenance and repair of plant equipment, ensuring optimal functionality and minimizing downtime. This includes proactive, predictive, and reactive maintenance activities.

Equipment Monitoring & Reporting: Monitor the performance of plant equipment, identify potential issues, and generate detailed reports using a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) like SAP. Recommend and implement corrective actions to improve equipment reliability.

Supervision & Mentorship: Supervise Fitter Aids, mentor Apprentices, and coordinate maintenance activities with production and workshop personnel, fostering a collaborative and efficient work environment.

Safety & Compliance: Adhere to all site-specific safety regulations, procedures, and company rules, as well as relevant safety regulations prescribed in the OHS Act. Promote a safety-first culture within the team.

Troubleshooting & Diagnostics: Conduct first-line troubleshooting, diagnose equipment malfunctions, and perform necessary repairs. Report any deviations in asset functionality promptly.

Maintenance Administration: Maintain accurate records of all maintenance, repair, and construction work performed. Manage spare parts inventory and order materials as needed.

Equipment Installation & Commissioning: Assist with the installation and commissioning of new equipment, ensuring seamless integration with existing systems.

Emergency Response & Standby: Participate in standby duties and provide emergency repair and maintenance services outside of normal working hours, ensuring continuous plant operation.

Continuous Improvement: Identify and implement opportunities for process improvement, optimizing maintenance procedures, reducing downtime, and increasing overall plant efficiency.

Contractor Management: Supervise and coordinate the work of external contractors, ensuring compliance with site safety regulations and company standards.

Qualifications & Experience:

 

Qualified Fitter with an N3 Certificate and Trade Test (or completed apprenticeship as a Millwright or Fitter & Turner).

Minimum 5 years of proven experience in chemical plant maintenance.

Strong technical, analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills.

Hands-on experience with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS), preferably SAP.

Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.

Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings and diagrams related to the trade.

Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces, adhering to safety protocols.
