About the Role

ALS Chemex SA, a global leader in laboratory testing and analytical services, is seeking a qualified Maintenance Technician to support our Edenvale facility. This is a shift-based role requiring flexibility, technical proficiency, and strong problem-solving skills.

The Maintenance Technician will ensure that all equipment, machinery, and infrastructure operate efficiently, safely, and in compliance with internal standards and external regulations. The ideal candidate will have experience in laboratory or mining environments, with proven ability to handle mechanical and electrical maintenance tasks.


Key Responsibilities

Maintenance & Operations

  • Conduct routine and preventative maintenance on laboratory equipment and auxiliary systems.

  • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation issues.

  • Perform building maintenance tasks (e.g., painting, carpentry, basic plumbing).

  • Ensure minimal downtime on lab equipment like jaw crushers, mills, dust extractors, and scrubbers.

Compliance & Safety

  • Adhere to ALS Health & Safety Foundation Standards and local OHS regulations.

  • Follow company Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and the Quality Management System.

  • Perform Hazard Identification and Risk Assessments (HIRA).

  • Maintain a clean and hazard-free workspace.

Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain maintenance logbooks and equipment service records.

  • Complete accurate job cards and reports for all maintenance work.

  • Assist with internal and external audits.

  • Compile SOPs for routine tasks.

Coordination & Support

  • Collaborate with the Maintenance Manager to plan and execute maintenance schedules.

  • Source and manage spare parts and consumables to minimize equipment downtime.

  • May attend production meetings and provide technical input when required.

  • Support maintenance tasks at other ALS SSA sites when necessary.


Core Technical Skills

  • Equipment inspection and diagnostics

  • Mechanical and electrical troubleshooting

  • Preventative and corrective maintenance

  • Basic fabrication, plumbing, and infrastructure repair

  • Inventory and tool management

  • Budget support and resource planning


Qualifications & Experience

  • Minimum Qualification: Maintenance Artisan Diploma or equivalent

  • Experience: 2–4 years in a laboratory or industrial setting

  • Technical Knowledge: Mechanical systems, electrical systems, instrumentation, and mining equipment

  • Software: Microsoft Office proficiency required

  • License: Valid driver’s license preferred

Salary on Offer – Non-Negotiable
TCOE R250 000.00 to R350 000.00 depending on experience and qualifications.
