Purpose of the Role:

As an Artisan Welder, your primary responsibility will be the fabrication and repair of locomotive steel components, carbody shells, and sub-assemblies in line with technical specifications, engineering drawings, and quality standards using GMAW (CO2) welding techniques.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Weld locomotive components as per approved Welding Procedures

  • Conduct self-quality inspections and ensure zero defects

  • Operate hand and power tools safely and effectively

  • Perform gouging and defect repair as required

  • Adhere strictly to Occupational Health and Safety Act (OSHACT) regulations

  • Prepare and set up welding tools and equipment

  • Maintain clean, organized work areas following 5S principles

  • Support training of apprentices and semi-skilled workers

  • Identify and report secondary damage and fabrication issues

  • Propose quality and productivity improvements

  • Assist with ad-hoc production support and operational tasks


Minimum Requirements:

  • Grade 12 / N3 Certificate

  • Trade Certificate in Welding (Essential)

  • 3–5 years of fabrication experience using GMAW (CO2) welding in a production environment

  • Familiarity with OSHACT and safety procedures
