Purpose of the Position
We are seeking a qualified Biomedical Technologist to join our Clinical Pathology Laboratory team. The primary responsibility of this role is to prepare, analyze, and process routine and stat specimens while ensuring that all laboratory equipment and analyzers are properly maintained. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in delivering accurate and timely laboratory results to support patient care.
Key Responsibilities for the Ampath 2025 Technologist Learnership
1. Laboratory Analysis & Specimen Processing
Prepare, analyze, and report routine and urgent (stat) laboratory specimens.
Conduct quality control procedures to ensure test accuracy and reliability.
Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory analyzers and diagnostic instruments.
Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) and adhere to quality assurance protocols.
Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues with laboratory equipment.
2. Compliance & Regulatory Standards
Ensure compliance with HPCSA regulations and clinical laboratory standards.
Adhere to the Ampath Safety, Health, and Environment (SHE) policy to maintain a safe working environment.
Maintain proper documentation and records for all laboratory tests performed.
3. Client Relations & Communication
Maintain positive client relationships by providing professional assistance and accurate test results.
Communicate effectively with healthcare professionals, laboratory staff, and clients.
Provide support in resolving queries related to laboratory tests.
4. Laboratory Administration
Perform general administrative tasks to ensure smooth laboratory operations.
Manage and organize patient samples, reports, and laboratory data.
Assist in inventory management by ordering and restocking laboratory supplies.
Requirements
Educational Qualifications:
National Diploma in Biomedical Technology (or equivalent qualification).
HPCSA Registration in the relevant register and practice field.
Experience & Knowledge:
Practical training experience in a clinical pathology laboratory.
Understanding of HPCSA regulations and compliance requirements.
Knowledge of Ampath Safety, Health, and Environment (SHE) policies.
Experience with laboratory information management systems (LIMS) is an advantage.
Skills & Competencies:
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Proficiency in laboratory techniques and instrumentation.
Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in test results.
Good communication and interpersonal skills.
