We are looking for a General Engineering Assistant to support our engineering team with various operational and technical tasks. This role plays a crucial part in ensuring smooth workshop operations, maintaining tools and materials, and assisting artisans in completing their duties efficiently. Key Responsibilities for Anglo American Engineering Assistant Job Opportunity

As a General Engineering Assistant, your duties will include, but are not limited to:

 

Maintaining good housekeeping in the workshop and work areas.

Assisting with material and workshop machinery & equipment control to ensure efficiency.

Using engineering tools effectively and safely.

Handling loading and dispatching of materials and equipment to various work sites.

Providing support to all trades (artisans) in daily activities.

Ensuring tool availability for artisans and other team members.

Following work instructions and ensuring a clear understanding of required actions.

Applying recognized work and safety standards to maintain a secure working environment.

Encouraging team collaboration to complete tasks efficiently.

Ensuring all tasks meet quality standards and minimizing material waste.

Making sure that all required tools, materials, and spare parts are available for job execution.

Communicating any unexpected problems or issues to the artisans.

Facilitating effective two-way communication among team members.

Assisting operational employees in equipment maintenance within the assigned area.

Accompanying artisans during inspections and task completions.

Promoting safety awareness by reminding team members to follow protocols and identifying unsafe work practices.

Reporting safety-related issues to artisans or the full-time safety representative.

Reporting Structure

This role operates at a B2 level and reports directly to the Engineering Foreman/Artisan.

 

Qualifications & Requirements

To be eligible for this position, candidates must meet the following requirements:

 

Grade 12 (Matric) with Mathematics and Science.

Internal Development Program: IDC will support individuals in developing their skills through ABET, NCOR, or NTC1 qualifications.

Experience

A minimum of one year of plant experience in an industrial or engineering environment.
