Main Purpose of the Job
The primary objective of the General Maintenance Technician is to perform routine and preventative maintenance on hospital buildings and technical equipment. This role ensures that all physical assets are maintained in excellent working condition, supporting a safe and efficient healthcare environment.
Key Responsibilities

Execute a variety of technical tasks related to general building and infrastructure maintenance.

Perform minor repairs, installations, and servicing of hospital equipment and structures.

Identify maintenance risks and hazards in the workplace and take preventive measures.

Monitor and supervise contractors on-site, ensuring compliance with safety and work quality standards.

Keep accurate records of all work performed, materials used, and issues encountered.

Assist with internal technical requests, prioritizing tasks based on urgency and operational impact.

Promote client and stakeholder satisfaction through effective communication and timely maintenance delivery.
Education and Certifications

Minimum Education: Grade 10 or equivalent technical vocational qualification (Essential)

Preferred Education: Grade 12 / Matric Certificate (Advantageous)

Preferred Certification: Valid Code B Driver’s Licence
Experience Requirements

Essential: 2–3 years’ experience in general building maintenance

Preferred: Experience in healthcare or similar high-compliance environments
Required Skills and Knowledge

Proficiency in general maintenance tasks (plumbing, carpentry, electrical basics)

Strong understanding of building repair techniques and safety protocols

Knowledge of OHS (Occupational Health and Safety) and ISO standards
