Job Purpose
As a General Assistant, your primary role is to support artisans and welders in their daily fabrication and assembly tasks. You will contribute to the efficient running of the workshop by ensuring the availability of tools, assisting with rigging and assembly operations, and maintaining a clean and safe work environment.
Key Responsibilities

Assist Boilermakers and Welders in their day-to-day operations within the welding bay.

Support in the assembly and disassembly of fabricated metal components.

Ensure the appropriate tools and equipment are on hand and within reach for assigned tasks.

Provide assistance during rigging and lifting operations, following all safety guidelines.

Conduct regular housekeeping duties to keep the work area clean, organized, and hazard-free.

Clean and maintain machinery, tools, and the overall facility.

Help source, obtain, and check parts and materials needed for various jobs.

Support the enforcement and adherence to workplace safety protocols and procedures.
Minimum Qualifications and Experience

Grade 12 / Matric (essential).

Prior experience in a workshop, welding, or fabrication environment is an advantage.

Physically capable of lifting or moving up to 20 kg, or using lifting/slings for heavier objects.

Willing and able to work in confined spaces and at heights when required.

Basic mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn new skills.
Additional Requirements & Competencies
-
Must be able to follow instructions accurately under supervision.

Ability to obtain certification as a forklift operator within 90 days of employment.

Ability to obtain certification as an overhead or jib crane operator within 90 days.

Awareness of occupational health and safety regulations.
-
Driver’s License (Code B) will be considered an added advantage.
