BTT is currently recruiting an Artisan Assistant to join our dynamic Maintenance Department in Richards Bay. This role provides an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in engineering maintenance, working in a fast-paced petrochemical environment alongside experienced artisans.

Who Can Apply? Minimum Requirements

To qualify for the Artisan Assistant position, candidates must meet the following criteria:

• Matric (Grade 12) certificate.
• N3 Mechanical qualification.
• Minimum of 2 years’ experience in an engineering environment, preferably in petrochemicals, mining, or heavy industry.
• Strong technical aptitude and willingness to learn.
• Ability to work safely and comply with health & safety regulations.

Key Responsibilities for the Bidvest Tank Terminals Artisan Assistant

Maintenance & Repairs:

• Assist qualified artisans with maintenance, inspections, and minor mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation tasks.
• Support preventative maintenance activities to ensure maximum equipment availability.
• Conduct routine equipment inspections and report faults.
• Assist in removing and installing minor components as needed.
• Provide support during breakdown repairs to minimize downtime.

Safety & Compliance:

• Maintain high housekeeping standards in the work area.
• Ensure safe disposal of waste materials generated during maintenance.
• Follow workplace safety regulations to prevent accidents and hazards.
• Tag and return equipment removed for repairs to the Stores department.

Tool & Equipment Management:

• Keep tools and equipment in good working condition.
• Operate basic tools and machinery safely.
• Complete and update preventative maintenance checklists and records.

Project Assistance:

• Support artisans in various engineering projects.
• Learn and apply new maintenance techniques to improve operations.
