Job Overview

We are seeking a motivated and technically inclined individual to join our team as a Mechanical Engineering Apprentice Technician. This apprenticeship is an excellent opportunity for individuals interested in building a long-term career in mechanical engineering. You will participate in a structured learnership programme, combining theoretical study, hands-on workshop training, and on-the-job learning in a well-established mechanical engineering facility.

This role is designed to provide you with the foundational skills and technical experience necessary to become a qualified mechanical engineering technician.


Key Responsibilities

  • Observe and learn a broad range of mechanical engineering skills and processes under the supervision of skilled technical staff.

  • Gradually progress toward performing engineering tasks independently and within a team as competence grows.

  • Attend and successfully complete all relevant college or institutional training courses, achieving required academic results to support annual progression.

  • Gain a strong understanding of Health and Safety protocols and implement safe working practices at all times.

  • Assist with the construction, modification, and maintenance of mechanical components, apparatus, and instruments based on drawings and verbal instructions.

  • Support the maintenance and repair of workshop tools and equipment to ensure operational efficiency.

  • Maintain a detailed logbook throughout the training period, documenting projects, experiences, and skills acquired.

  • Keep the workshop and laboratory clean and organized, following good housekeeping principles.

  • Uphold a professional appearance and attitude, representing the organization with integrity.

  • Perform other duties relevant to the role and level of training, as assigned.


Minimum Requirements

  • Matric/Grade 12 certificate (with Maths and Physical Science preferred)

  • Previous experience in the engineering or steel industry (advantageous but not required)

  • Strong interest in mechanical engineering, machinery, and hands-on work

  • Must have a clear criminal record

  • Contactable references

  • Willingness to commit to the full duration of the apprenticeship programme
