Job Overview
SMH is looking for a dedicated and passionate individual who aspires to become a qualified Diesel Technician in the commercial vehicle industry. This apprenticeship provides an opportunity for hands-on experience while working under the supervision of a qualified technician, helping you build a strong foundation in diesel mechanics.
Minimum Educational Requirements
Grade 12 (Matric) with Mathematics, Science & English OR
N2 in Mechanical Engineering / N2 Diesel – Motor Mechanic
Basic Computer Literacy
Key Responsibilities for the Daimler Truck 2025 Apprentice Program
1. Maintenance & Technical Support
Assist in performing diagnostic tests, repairs, and routine maintenance on diesel vehicles.
Ensure all repairs and services are authorized by relevant stakeholders.
Follow DTSA (Daimler Truck South Africa) standards and meet prescribed service times.
Accurately complete job cards and document all findings.
Seek supervisory support when needed during repairs.
2. Customer Service Excellence
Maintain the highest standards of care for customer vehicles and property.
Use seat covers and protective equipment to safeguard customer assets.
Keep customers informed through the Foreman and Service Advisor about potential issues or delays.
Ensure quality workmanship in every repair or service performed.
3. Administration & Cost Control
Record working hours accurately for each vehicle serviced.
Report and document any faults and submit relevant documents.
Follow warranty, maintenance, and fleet control systems for used parts.
Ensure efficient use of materials, oils, and fluids to reduce waste.
4. Housekeeping & Safety Compliance
Use the correct tools and equipment according to DTSA repair instructions.
Maintain a clean and organized work bay at all times.
Follow SHE (Safety, Health, and Environmental) regulations and company policies.
Secure and maintain all hand tools as per DTSA guidelines for apprentices.
5. Self-Development & Training
Take responsibility for learning and skills development through both on-the-job and formal training.
Adhere to the MERSETA apprenticeship agreement and submit all training portfolios on time.
Participate in regular assessments and technical training sessions.
