South Deep Gold Mine, a world-class operation and a part of Gold Fields Group, is offering an exciting Engineering Learnership opportunity for individuals passionate about pursuing a skilled trade in Diesel Mechanics. This learnership is available exclusively to candidates who reside within South Deep’s host communities, empowering local talent with structured technical training and workplace exposure.

 Who Can Apply?

To be considered, applicants must:

• Be a resident of one of the South Deep Host Communities, namely:

  • Bekkersdaal, Zuurberkom, Thusanang, Hillshaven, Westonaria, Poortjie, Simunye, Kalbasfontein, or Jachtfontein.

• Possess a Grade 12 certificate with Mathematics and Physical Science.

• Hold a full N3 qualification in Engineering with the following four trade-specific subjects:

  • Engineering Mathematics

  • Engineering Science

  • Diesel Trade Theory

  • Engineering Drawing

• Be declared medically fit for both underground and training environments via a risk-based medical exam and pass a Heat Tolerance Screening test conducted by the Gold Fields Occupational Health Centre.

 Learnership Details For The Diesel Mechanic Learnership Opportunity

The learnership provides both on-the-job practical training and external classroom-based technical learning. You’ll develop hands-on experience in diesel mechanics, preparing you for a formal artisanal qualification under the guidance of qualified mentors.

Your Key Responsibilities Will Include:

• Participating in technical training modules and mine-required short courses.

• Maintaining a high level of performance and discipline.

• Following all mine health and safety procedures and using PPE correctly.

• Demonstrating teamwork, accountability, and a willingness to learn.
