Purpose of the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Service Technician to lead advanced service and repair operations for our specialized safety equipment, including Fixed Gas Detection Systems (FGDS), breathing apparatus, and custom engineered safety solutions. The ideal candidate will combine hands-on technical expertise with leadership capabilities, ensuring the highest standards of service excellence and regulatory compliance.
As a senior member of our technical team, you will perform expert-level diagnostics, maintenance, and calibrations, mentor junior technicians, and ensure alignment with global standards such as ISO 9001, ISO 13485, ISO 17020, and ISO 45001. This is a highly visible role requiring exceptional attention to detail, independent decision-making, and a commitment to safety and precision.
Key Responsibilities For The Draeger Service Technician Job Opportunity
Technical & Operational Excellence:

Lead complex diagnostics, troubleshooting, and repairs for high-risk safety and gas detection systems, both in the workshop and on client sites (national and international).

Handle FGDS installations, commissioning, and pre-delivery inspections (PDI) independently.

Conduct root-cause analysis, manage escalated service cases, and ensure proper documentation via CRM/NAVsystems.

Maintain calibration traceability and manage test tools in compliance with PQ3130, SE1300/SE1500 procedures.

Participate in internal quality audits and resolve non-conformities proactively.
Leadership & Mentorship:

Serve as the go-to expert for technical escalations and fault-finding challenges.

Mentor and review the work of junior technicians, signing off service reports and ensuring training consistency.

Support the Workshop Manager in load planning, resource coordination, and continuous improvement projects.
Qualifications & Experience

National Diploma or BTech in Electrical/Electronic Engineering (NQF Level 6 or higher)

Trade Test Certification (Electrician or Instrumentation) – advantageous

Minimum 5 years of hands-on technical experience in industrial safety equipment, instrumentation, or gas detection

Previous experience with Draeger products or equivalent OEM systems is highly desirable

Proficient in technical service documentation, CRM tools, and automated testing software

Strong leadership skills with a proven ability to mentor and guide teams

Valid Driver’s License required

Excellent communication, report-writing, and problem-solving skills
